Glass sails that touch the clouds in Dubai, giant towers linked by bridges in Kuala Lumpur, facades that bend towards the sky in Saint Petersburg: all over the world, modern architecture pushes the limits of height and changes the look of big cities.
Modern tall buildings change the look of cities around the world. The Burj Al Arab in Dubai looks like a sailing boat, the CCTV headquarters in Beijing connects two towers with horizontal sections, the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur (452 meters) are linked by a bridge, and the One World Trade Center in New York rises to 541 meters. Each building shows a particular way of architecture and new techniques suited to its place. The selection covers all continents and features buildings with different uses. The Lakhta Center in Saint Petersburg can be recognized by its twisted glass facade, the Torre Costanera in Santiago offers views of the Andes. Whether they are homes like the Eureka Tower in Melbourne or offices like the Kingdom Centre in Riyadh, these buildings show how contemporary design shapes cities in the 21st century.
